How We Tested

Each product considered for ELLE.com’s First Class Beauty Awards was rigorously evaluated against criteria tailored to the needs of our on-the-go audience. To be eligible, products must have launched between April 2025 and March 2026.

From 1,017 submissions, the ELLE Beauty team shortlisted 430 products across five marquee categories: hair, skin, body, makeup, and tools. With an emphasis on practicality, innovation, and travel-readiness, we narrowed that pool to 220 standout contenders for hands-on staff testing.

Final selections were tested and reviewed by ELLE.com’s beauty commerce team, with additional feedback from a panel of 24 ELLE staffers. Each product was assessed on reliability and performance, ease of transport, and formula benefits.
